“But by the grace of God, I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain, but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I but the grace of God within me.” 1 Corinthians 15:10
This most cherished scripture defines the purpose and passion of Hickory Harvest’s Senior Pastor, Kurt Gebhards. Born in 1971, Kurt grew up in a family who moved frequently, captured by the adventure of exploring the world. They lived in locales from Rio de Jeneiro, Brazil to New York where he became a diehard fan of the Mets, Jets, and Knicks. Kurt’s life dramatically changed in 1988 when he was born again before his senior year in high school. He focused on a career in International Finance. But God’s plan for his life was made evident when Kurt was called to pursue vocational ministry while serving on a mission trip in Belize. After receiving a BS in Economics from Liberty University, he earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology from the Master’s Seminary. In southern California, Kurt served 15 years at Grace Community Church under the leadership of Dr. John MacArthur, and was then called to serve Hickory Harvest in 2009. Zealous to become a better emissary of the gospel, he is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Expository Preaching at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Kurt’s heartbeat is to magnify the Lord Jesus Christ, and to make disciples by boldly proclaiming the gospel to the unsaved, preaching God’s Word to equip and encourage believers, and developing strong leaders who are also passionate about disciple-making. It is Kurt’s joy to see God’s church full of joy and love, reaching out and engaging others for Christ’s glory. Pastoring Hickory Harvest since 2009, he considers it an honor and privilege to serve “a church filled with such faithful and loving saints!”
Kurt is married to the love of his life, Julie. They joyfully parent six children, celebrated as “The Munch Bunch.” Their bookend boys, Reilly and Dax, and four girls, Shea, McKinley, Camdyn, and Macy, range in age from fourteen to four.
